Alex, I took Dave's advice and told my story in this post. I just couldn't tell it to him in person, verbally and "all of the sudden". It made me feel really worthless, not being able to tell MY story when that's basically what everyone does every day. I didn't know what to say to him.

Anyway, the experience has taught me that I have to be ready to dance at a moments notice if I want to work at a place like Banyan. Maybe I can't do that, which means I wouldn't be the kind of person you guys are looking for. (FYI, for anyone reading, 'Alex' is Banyan Branch partner Alex Garcia --- I'm glad someone finally responded, although I'd love to hear from Dave personally, too.)

As for seeing things through the perspective of a potential recruiter or hiring manager... well, I guess it's a lot like dating. If she doesn't like what she sees, she doesn't like what she sees. I'm not interested in forcing someone's hand, being dishonest, or getting rich; I'm interested in steady employ, a means of paying off my debts, and a way to express the talents I've worked hard to develop. Creativity, as B.S. as much of the HR world might think it is, is vastly more important to me than "protecting the message". And creativity is what captures people's attention. There is no more room for playing it safe in a Web-savvy world, a participatory culture that sees right through the corporate shill. The scary thing about social media is it means PR/marketing types can no longer lie for a living.

I hope that's communicated at Banyan. Openness. Safety comes from embracing the crowd. Whatever crowd can help me with the current trial that I face, the more the better. That's why I posted this here, and why I sent it to my Facebook notes so my friends there could chime in as well. No man is an island, so I welcome your advice, Alex.

So, what do you think?

Just a few thoughts... If your having trouble finding a job, this post isn't going to help. Just for one moment try and look at this post through the eyes of an employer/recruiter, someone who might hire you in the near future. Now think about what this post might say about you.

Hell I'd help with advice but everything about this post says you don't take advice very well. But if you want advice hit me up
